I'm looking at getting a chronograph and was wondering what kind some of you use. I'm looking at this one (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/vertical-item.jhtml?id=0005823222713a&navAction=push&navCount=3&indexId=&podId=0005823&catalogCode=ID&parentId=&parentType=&rid=&cmCat=search) because it can be switched between pellet and bullet, so I can use it for my real steel and airsoft.

Any thoughts?

In my opinion, this is the best chrono you can buy: http://www.shootingsoftware.com/chronographs.htm especially if you get the infrared lighting option (you can use it in complete darkness). Punisher and I both have one of these, and they are amazing (it will even talk to you if you want it to!) :D

Is there any other Chrono you guys can recommend that is under $100 but is still good? All I need it for is just measuring FPS, nothing other like lights, etc. PS. I would like the Low, Average and High FPS.

Guarder is coming out with a little compact Chrono:

There isnt a lot out on it though, just a picture and a tid-bit of info. It is on the IntruderShop page and Arnies.

The new chrony unit is a shoot-through box with a front three digit display with dimensions of 14 x 11 x 4.5cm.. so it's actually quite small. Here's hoping that their chrono will survive accidental shots from an AEG. Sadly there's no details on crystal refresh rate, possible interface ports, or what rate of fire it will read but like most I'm looking forward to this release.

Im looking forward to see what this Chrono will be like. It seems like it would fit my team's needs perfectly, but I have yet to see a review or a price.

I've got the same Chorno that you've called out. Here's where I got mine from:

http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/244882

Over all it a bare bone, no frills chrono. It' works just fine for airsoft, but it's a little touchy when it come to the light source. Out doors I've had no issues with it, you just need to move it around a little bit til the lighting is correct. Indoors is another mater and it's a lot harder to get it too work correctly. This chrono will not work under flourescent (spelling?) lights and incadescent lights need to be really really bright. FYI, there is a optional light kit that you can buy to take care of the light issue completely.

Like I said, once I got used to the chrono, I've had no issues, and I feel it gives pretty accurate readings. I've only used this for airsoft, not real steel. I will let you know that there is no switch on the chrono to change between the two. All you do is fire a projectile thru it and you're good to go.

For airsoft, I've found that the muzzle need to be almost on top of the front photo cell.

If you haven't picked up yet, there are a couple of issue with this chrono, but nothing too major. I still use mine regularly and I feel that it gives pretty accurate readings. For what it cost, I'd have no issues with buying this chrono again if I needed another.
