I was just wondering how many 8.4v mini batteries i should purchase if i am planning to play for a day?

I would say 2-3 but my 950 NiMh lasts me about 20 mags or so..... I think.

I think 2 should do it for most. Ive survived with one.
this is dependent on how you play and the ambient temperature and many other factors really.
if you are playing in summer, the cells wont drain nearly as fast as when its a nice 20 degrees in the winter.
If you full auto it alot, you probably drrain your batteries alot more, as well as even how much you shoot period.
i have a 9.6 1100 mah. as far as airsoft goes, im a thinker more then a shooter.
its less common i fire my weapon, but i position people, and run stuff basically. dont get me wrong, I still shoot plenty. but that 9.6 has not been charged for probbaly 2-3 games now... it retains plenty of charge for me.
all too dependent.
best of luck

I've put a bag and a half of airsoft BBs through my gun, and I've only charged it like 3 times. And there's still a good charge in it, too bad I ran out of BBs and I'm too lazy to get some more.

I would suggest you consider the larger capacity batteries for your M4.
Like the 1700 mah "V" battery like this:
http://www.airsoftarms.com/viewproductdetail.php?ProdID=543
www.onlybatterypacks.com has them, too.
They are a better value than multiple minis, IMHO.
As far as it (or any battery) lasting "all day" that really depends on your play and shooting style, as well as temperatures and proper charging. Assuming you are playing at this time of year and are properly charging/conditioning/etc. your pack you might expect a new battery to fire 1x to 1.5x the mah rating of the battery in number of rounds. A 600 mah mini should fire about 600 to 1000 rounds and a 1700 mah should get about 1700 to 2500 rounds.
Only you can determine if you will fire that many rounds in a day's play.

I'm going to agree with Macdaddy on this. I have an M4 and I use a 9.6 1700 mAh and it lasts all day without any noticable drop in the ROF. The custom battery packs are a better value then buying the equivelant amount of minis. And since you are going to be using 8.4 V packs, follow the link above and pick what size you like. 1700 mAh should be more than enough.

I have never ran out of battery Juice in a day o small games. So for the M4 you only need 1 or 2. Not counting whole day games

But if i were to get a 9.6v 1700mah wounldn't that mean that i i would have to upgrade my gun and i would rather not do that.

Stick with the 8.4V - regardless of of whether or not you go with minis or larger capacity batteries - on a stock AEG.
