ok, im a newbie, actually to be honest, im not even a newbie yet. ive admired airsoft for years and the day is approaching when the rents are actually going to let me get guns. ive done my fair share of research, and ive come to the conclusion that i dont want something huge like an m4 or m16 or something like that. right now im really looking at the mp5k and the mp5ras. i was just wondering if all you guys could just give me some input and your opinion. maybe some pros and cons of the two?
any input is much appreciated.
thanks,
brian

I would defintely suggest the RAS as a first gun. the Mp5k is just going to be more of a pop up and shoot at will type gun, nothing too serious. The RAS is more of what you will want to get involved, and it has more aftermarket accessories to use, then the K does.
Battery isnt much to worry about. Stick with a mini your first few games and when you start to get more aggressive and into it, you can get a custom battery to fit inside, or external battery bag.
But overall, I just think the RAS is a better beginner gun then the K is. I want to say its more tactical, but thats not totally true, its just the best word on my mind right now.

thanks. im still doing my research, but i think im leaning toward the ras. its inner barrel length is more than double that of the kurz. i dont know how much of an effect that has, but i immagine it has some.

Army hummer would you recommend any other mp5 over the mp5k if you were to just go out for light games with a few people? and wouldn't the mp5k make a great backup?

Hey, i know the question was asked to Army Hummer, but if you don't mind i have a question for you: What type of games are you playing? If it is woodland or desert, then go for an MP5A4 or another MP5 with a full stock, because you can get a larger battery in it. If it is CQB, then get the MP5k-PDW, MP5-RAS or MP5A5.
I had an MP5k-PDW with a FTK in it, and it got some distance to it. The barrel does make a difference in range, but again, if it is CQB, that does not matter. Good luck on getting your gun.

alright I play in my neighboor hood with some younger kids, I play in a woodland envioment up in a national park , and i play in an open area. I'm kinda all over the place which is the reason for my question.
Do you think a mp5 a4 or sd5 would be my best bet?
I am 6 feet tall and usually use my glockS (17 and 18c) while in doors.

in my opinion the RAS makes a great backup as well, and is slightly more versatile. For a while, when i carried a 400 FPS m16a2, I carried an Mp5 RAS slung on my back.
Im also pretty sick.
with a bit of work, you can remove the stock (which to me seemed useles) and put the end cap back on.
I think the RAS is a better choice all, but thats only me

Ranger,
When dealing with Mp5's. The mp5k is the last on the list for best Mp5. No matter what use, COMPARED to other Mp5's.
Now when you come to support, quick fire with a sniper rifle, or the like, the Mp5k has its advantages over other Mp5's. but even then, many still choose a retractable stock version, the a5, or sd6.
As Marcus cited, when you arent needing an mp5 for some sort of backup gun, then it comes down to where, and how your using your Mp5.
For isntance, if your dealing with CQB a LOT, then chances are you might be better with a retractable stock of an a, or sd model. ( btw, I will cite both of these in these instances because of player preference. One player may love the special ops feel and look of the sd, while another may want the tactical SWAT look of an A model. )
but for someone who might be outside a lot, dealing with more rapid fire and needing more ammo, you will turn to a full stock model, A4, or sd5.
The PDW and K models come into hand when dealing with starting off people, or people who want backup fire, or just really do like the gun.
If you SERIOUSLY want compactibility in an mp5, the PDW is the best you can get in my opinion. There are ways to make bigger batteries in the stock, and the stock allows a much better hold and stability on the gun, as the K is simply two handed and does propose a problem with any type of sharp shooting at a target even at shorter disetances.
Now we get into the RAS. It simply covers all of the above. Except backup weapon in some cases. It can, but most of the time, the bigger RAS, the folding stock, and the plastic muzzle seems to get in the way. But it CAN and still is an effective weapon just as the others.
Again, as you can see, it really comes down to style of play, where you play, and what your situation is.
I would reccommend further chatting with you to narrow it down and talk over the Mp5's if you would like. I will be returning from my trip to lake erie tuesday evening.
So just drop me a line at ArmyHummer@msn.com or add my sn to your buddy list - VVMarineSniper on AIM or AOL and IM me sometime.
Good luck,
Ryan
