Ok guys if I get arrested (lol) I want you all to know why! Like ZOMFG i am so worried I should have been arrested 30 minutes ago

I am bce808
bce808 (12:47:52 AM): hi
Odin303 (12:48:42 AM): Who is this?
Odin303 (12:49:02 AM): How did you get this screen name?
bce808 (12:49:15 AM): aim boards
Odin303 (12:49:21 AM): You did?
Odin303 (12:49:56 AM): Well, would you care to try another lie? As this is a private account name that has never been published or posted in any way shape or form on any board, chat room, or internet forum
bce808 (12:49:58 AM): yeah a while ago i think
bce808 (12:50:21 AM): well then how else did i get it you snob
bce808 (12:51:01 AM): PS nothing is "private" on the internet, especially seeing as I got this somehow
Odin303 (12:51:13 AM): I am not a snob, I am someone who has a private account name and does not understand first how you obtained their contact info and two why you are invading their privacy, I guarentee you did not obtain it from any sort of chat room, mesage board or forum
bce808 (12:52:27 AM): I am invading no privacy by IMing apparently you have no Idea of the privacy laws of the internet
Odin303 (12:53:36 AM): You obviously are a liar, a idiot or mistaken and entered the wrong screen name, either case, the fact still remains this is a private account, you have no right to message here and are hereby warned to stop talking and leave, any further messages from your persons will be considered Harrassment via electronic means which under the US penal code as of June 3rd is a Class B felony which means you will be tracked via ISP and ISB if you violate that law and be traced, arrested and charged with a felony, so again do not reply to this message or send another in any way shape or form, and yes I because of the profession of myself as well as others in my household am specifically aware of the law and most especially internet laws, you need not believe me but one more message and wihtin the hour you will be in jail, you have been warned, goodbye
bce808 (12:56:09 AM): It is not harrasment as there is no such insulting tone to it, go ahead push a suit on me, but I do believe your actions in believing you can have a "private" AIM account are mistaken, furthermore your reaction to an IM being an invasion of privacy is outlandish to say the least
Odin303 (12:56:24 AM): Fine, I see your content on violating not only my privacy but the law, you obviously do not care or not believe or believe you are nto in the wrong, whatever the case within the hour you will be in jail and proven wrong, there is no more warning, my attorneys will see you in court within the week, goodbye
bce808 (12:57:33 AM): Thank you for the for warning but there is nothing here that warrents any sort of arrest or prosecution under the laws of the United States.
bce808 (12:59:16 AM): Furthermore it is 1AM EST not many attorneys tend to stay up this late pursuing a worthless case such as this one
Odin303 (1:00:05 AM): Under section 23 and affirmed by the Supreme court June 3rd, 2007 Yes there is, Internet harrassment via electronic means is a Class B felony and is defined in one base instance as if you are forewarned that further contact will be considered harrassment and you continue to contact without prompt, that violates the statuet, this is a fact and my job, you are wrong and withiin the hour will be in Jail within the hour and I speak not of a law suit therefore no attorney except your own will be needed, i speak of a federal charge, criminal charge, you will be in jail within the hour, i advise you to not make further messaging or it will be added to your charge count, goodbye
bce808 (1:01:28 AM): Ahh but you are forgetting the crucial line of without prompt, your pompus responses are pleanty prompt.
Odin303 (1:02:23 AM): Not under the law but nice try, and you have been warned of further contact counting against you, police have been contacted and your time of arrest will be within 10 minutes, goodbye
bce808 (1:03:08 AM): Goodbye

Its been 30 minutes, and no cop car has moved from the parking lot * my window is into the police parking lot. Hell I park my car there too and nothing has moved over there.

Who is in the right? I know some of my arguments may be off but its 1:30EST and I am tired. I am not afraid, but I just want to know how far that internet privacy reaches.

Well for me this has raised the question just how far does internet privacy/ harassment go

Thus the reason... I believe AIM is the most worthless, weakest, crappiest instant messaging program ever created. It is riddled with security holes, lacks privacy features, and is an all around abomination. MSN is so much more secure...

On a more related note, I do not believe there are any grounds for legal action in this... Yes, internet harassment IS against the law, but accidentally messaging the wrong account once is not. If you continued to bother him/her, threatened his/her life and cyber-stalked him/her, then you'd be in the wrong.

Titan

Not a clue that was my whole reason for iming him in the 1st place, his "private" account was on my BL

Owned.

It's a prank.

That's all garbage.

When you sign onto any messaging service, there is no "privacy." You have signed onto a publicly accessible network. If the person did not want to chance being messages by someone, they should not log in.

Two, unless he is an administrator of AIM, there is no way he could legally obtain your IP from the AIM software.

If he didn't like you PMing you, he could have used the warning system, which can shut your account down temporarily. At the very least, he could have blocked you.

Whether or not you are harassing someone is largely left up to a judge. And it usually has to be established that you were consistently harassing someone for it to be taken as a valid complaint. I don't know of any police agency that would even bother with this as a case.

Well Milford certainly didn't as I am not in jail yet, I hate empty promises

Yeah, the most that would happen to you even if you go arrested for that conversation would be a warning or a few hours of volunteer hours at the most. You don't gotta worry. The court system has much more important things to worry about.

I have done worse......Theres no possible way for you to get arrested for this nonsense. The only way you could get arrested from something on the internet is plagerism, risk of national security(anarchist cookbook*), fraud(paypal*), death threats, and etc. This guy is just giving you crap.

Also like Texx said he didnt use the warning system or block you.

If you get a call in the night from Odin303 and he says his real name is Joshua and says "Greetings Professor Falken, Would you like to play a game?" Dont pick Global Thermonuclear War. That could get you arrested.

Perhaps you have been arrested. You are now being held in a secret underground lab. You are being kept sedated and your brain is fed thoughts by a secret government computer. It is designed to make you believe that you are still living your life while they use your body for perverted means and later, will be posted on youtube. In fact this whole thread is a simulation being played out in your head. Soon, a weird dude will ask you to eat the blue or red pill. Take them both, it will be a heck of a trip.

All I'm going to say is that you IMO were the one that pushed it onto the "oh no you di-int" territory when you called him a snob, it all went downhill from there

yes but it was fun, I really hate people like this and I cannot stand someone who just acts like a strait up jerk when all I was doing was simply finding out who it was. When he goes right to the no you can't get my SN from forums, it is just like asking for it, at least I think so.

lol ahhhhhh the internet. isnt it great?? internet anonymity (http://airsoftohio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15503&highlight=internet) basically lets you do whatever you want without anybody knowing its you. you probly wouldnt have said that to his face. it probly would have been a much more modest and nicer conversation. he wouldnt of threatened you liked that if you had found out a "private" piece of information about him. so lets just say its over with and everyone be nicer and more modest people on the internet............

just like i still really really really really really really want to play in that park. it will never be right. and ppl will never ALWAYS be good on the internet.

He ended up picking a fight with him and the person on his BL that Odin didnt know sent him to jail and court. thats how Odin knows all this law crap. if it were me i woulda stop talkin to him after he yelled at me cuz i woulda been scared lol.

It's pretty sad. I did a little bit of simple digging, and I found out many many things about this guy. I wont gives specific details because I wouldn't want someone doing the same to me, but I found his age, gender, and the state, and even the city he lives in. I also found out a few hobbies of his. These things are readily available on the internet for anyone who wants to view them. For example, if you set your myspace to very private, and just want your friends and family to know these kinds of things, they are still very readily available for others to see. I could probably creep this guy out very easily just telling these things to him that I know although I honestly don't know him. Putting all of your screen names, myspace nicknames, forum names, other handles, and things of the such all the same name or ID leaves you open for these kinds of things. Maybe "internet anonymity" isn't what it seems...
