View Full Version : Bbs Spreading

I have an ICS M4, nothing internally upgraded except spring and bushings. When I first got the gun it fired almost dead on. I had only to adjust it slightly. Right before OP 110 the bbs would spread badly. I'm new to airsoft so I thought it could be a) the hop up or b) the barrel. I tried adjusting the hop up several times with no luck in reducing the bbs from spreading. I swabbed the barrel throughly- still no luck. The problem is it shoots like a double eagle or something. Every few rounds one or two completely veers off right or left. I was looking to put a tight bore barrel and supressor on it to try to add to the range and accuracy before this weekend. I plan on taking it to Airsoftarms in the next few days, but I'd like to have an idea of what type of repair I will need before I make that trip.

I think this problem is common actually, when I read reviews on the m15a4 tact carbine, they said upgrade it to tightbore to stop spread, I hope this helps, but wait for a few more responses

Adding a barrel won't explain what caused the accuracy to tank, and may not be able to fix it. The most obvious cause would be the BBs. What brand were you using at first, and what were you using when the accuracy dropped?

IMO, it sounds like you still have something in the barrel, possible something hard like dried mud or something right near the muzzle. I'd completely remove the barrel and give it a intensive once over.

Another option MIGHT be that the hop up ***bin might have shifted in the hop up unit. So you might want to take apart the barrel hop up assembly and make sure the the ***bin is still sitting in the cup on the ICS hop up.

Other than that, I really have no good ideas for you. In general though, I haven't had any issues like that with my ICS M16, but then again, I'm using tight bore barrels and after market hop up ***bins and buckings. If interested, I prefer Systema barrels and either Guarder Clear or Systema hop up buckings.

IMO, the barrel, bucking, and ***bin would all be solid purchases. While I can't tell you if they'll make your problem go away (IMO, they should), you'll still get increased performance by just spending a little bit of money on these easy to install parts.

What's with the language filter editing N-U-B-B-I-N?

If the hopup had shifted, wouldn't the deviations be consistent? Unless something was loose, and each shot moved it slightly..?

The best rule of thumb for troubleshooting stuff like this is to start with the cheapest fixes and work up. I learned that the hard way when I replaced a motherboard, hard drive, and CPU just to find out my RAM was bad.

since his gun is an ICS i would bet the plastic clip that holds the barrel into the hop up has cracked. I have seen the same thing happen to other ICS guns, with about the same result

The exact thing happend to me with my ics m4, the bbs kept going in different directions. I thought nothing of it and thought that the bb's were had a spec of dirt on it and kept on shooting the rest of the day. Later when I got home I found out the clip holding the barrel in place to the hop up had broken in half. Later after fixing that I found out the hop up was braking peice by peice untill the dial wouldnt turn to adjust at all. I would buy a spare hop up unit to see if that does the trick. If its not the problem you only spent $14 and have another hop up in case it eventually brakes.

The Banker, I started with Matrix bbs and switched over to TSDs.

I would start with the simple (and cheap).
1. Clean barrel
2. Clean hop-op
3. Try heavier BBs (.23-.25s).
