ever had one of those days? when your life seems to be going just fine, not exactly fantastic, but you at least know the direction that you are heading? then something @#$%^ comes out of the blue and completely buggers your life & future all to heck. Maybe this is something unique to me but for some reason this !@$## always seems to happen to me.
Ok, the reason why I am typing this yesterday I recieved a letter from U.C.'s McMicken college of A&S. I didn't think anything of it until I read what it had to say. I, Wes Spriggs-Perzel, have hereby been placed on academic suspension due to a defficent quality point average (QPA A.K.A. GPA). In plain engrish this means that I have been kicked out of UC, for a year, which might as well be permanently. I failed for a stupid reason as well, personal injury. I broke my left (writing hand) arm the day before my first exam week. Then buggered up my second quarter because I was making !@$# up from 1st quarter. I did alright in my 3rd quarter, but unfortunately is was not sufficient enough to bring my GPA up enough. #@$#%#!$! %$!# %!# %!#$% !#$% %$#%#$ $%#$ #$%# %#$% #$% #$ #$% % %%#$%#
I don't know how many of you know me or have met me, but, I am 17, I have my high school diploma, I graduated last year. I am... was in college. everyone has the impression that I am some !@$@# child prodigy and should ace everything. but I don't. I have an allergic reaction to school work (or so it seems). One might argue that I have my entire life ahead of me and that I have a lot of options still open to me, but in my mind there is no other option, college was supposed to take up my time until my early 20's, then I was going to go find a nice job and do what ever. This option is basically no longer viable.
So anyway, after discovering that piece of information yesterday I decided to go celebrate my three best friends' departures (two are married and in the army and getting moved to louisiana, and the other is going off to boot.). Ok, seriously, smirnof is the devil's drink, it tastes sooo good but it gets you sooo crunked, especially if you drink 4 or 5 of them. ( I do not advocate underage consumption of alcohol, kids, don't follow my example) I have only vague recollections of last night. So I woke up this morning feeling quiet dandy.
so in retrospect, I am a failure, always have been. anyone know any good trades I can get into?

Ah man, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm pullin' for ya, just keep on pushin' through. When the going gets tough the tough get going.
PS: You're not a failure dude.

First off, I'm sorry to hear about the misfortune. Second, you are not a failure. Take time to re-evaluate what it is that you want to do in life and focus your energy in that direction. Is it easy? Hell no. This is life, and no one ever said it would be easy and there aren't any manuals to guide you. Life is what you make of it. So pick yourself up, dust your shoulders off, and get at it. There are far worse things that can happen ust look at this as a speed bump. Keep your head up guy!

how can you call yourself a failure if you graduated high-school early?

Dooooode, I can't even remember 17! Just take a little time off. Maybe in a year or so go to a community college, get your GPA up and you can go back. Or you can do like I did, get in a heap load of dept with college loans and never finish college! If you are looking for a trade, I would maybe look into airplane mechanics or computers. This is only a phase. Sometimes when I am down I think about one guy I went to school with who has three children with two different women and he does not know what a paycheck is anymore. Another friend who is on his third marriage. Again, has no idea what a paycheck looks like...alamony, child support ect. If you are really feeling down, just think about all of our men and women overseas. They are away from loved ones, always in harms way and some may never walk again or ever come home. Now that is rough. Chin up bro. I guarantee it will get better!
anyone know any good trades I can get into?
How about U.C.'s McMicken college of A&S for Ohio State University.

Booohoooohooo, I feel bad for you dude.....NOT!!!!
While we all went there at some point, you just past from the nice and cozy life of student to the real world. Feeling bad for you would only make things worse. The way I see it, you always thought become adult would be easy and school did not worth extra effort and dedication. well you found out that yes, things come at you fast. so you now have 2 options; you either cry about it and do nothing or you stand up, adapt and overcome.
you want to take the first and easiest option? fine, destroy your life, the one of those who will support you in your fall (most likely your parents or close friends) and blame the whole society in few years. I have honestly no compassion for those taking that route. I have family members who ruined their life and threatened to kill themselve, I even lost friend due to suicide and up to these days, I have no regret about them and they can rot in hell. I will not go into all the details but these person had responsibilities and they decided to take the easy route (call it drug, alcohol, what ever will make you feel better).
Now, you can take the "hard" way right now, work hard to get back on the top and then enjoy you hard earned privileges, knowledge, etc. If you want to go that way, you need to organize your battle plan. Few tricks I can give you real quick.
- Airsoftohio will not help you getting your life back together. Seek advice where real professional can help.
- Did you contact your school what options you have?
- Did you see when you could get back in college?
- Did you see what other alternative could be available (enrolling who give you college and you would serve your country, right?)
- Do you need College to succeed in life (I mean, can you attend other technical school without college)?
All in all, you don't have to trade anything. Yeh, you got a little bump in your perfect road to success but as other said above, there are people in much worse conditions than you and they keep going forward. You still have control over your next 80 years, right? If so, you can still take the actions to make sure you will succeed. Time is relative, bumps can be fixed, some stupid mistakes can't.
You are 17, you have plenty of time to correct the situation. Heck, you are not even married yet!!! why are you even worrying that much??? ;)

lol... well said Blade.
dub4lyfe, this is obviously your first major challenge in life, you had better learn to toughen up and deal with it, because life is not going to get easier.
While you might have been ready for college acedemically, I suspect you were not ready when it comes to maturity. There are plenty of colleges you can attend, so hopefully you learn from this and take it more seriously next time.

The worst thing you can do is give up!! Hardwork, dedication and devotion to your goals and dreams is the key to everything you do. To be successful at anything you do in life remember to give it 1000%.
At the end.........the rewards will be worth it!! You'll reflect on the hardwork and say "it wasnt that hard"

Three choices here kid.
STFU and Join the Military
STFU and go to another school
STFU and get a full time job and move out of your parents house.
Pick one Pick one now, and get right with yourself. Because goddamnit I failed out of a hell of a lot better university than you did, and I'm going back for more punishment. I also work two jobs, and put up with a hell of a lot more in my home life. So you want to compare scars lets do it. Airsoft ohio is not your friend we are not here to cry on. Do one the the three above options and move the hell on.

so a little bit of an update....
1. I got fired from my job today.
2. I am going to a different school (cincy state)
3. I don't live at home (most of the time)
oh and btw, I wasn't intending this to be a plead for simpathy or help, but more of a venting. most of the people that I usually vent to/at are gone now.

ummmmm, whats the problem? your 17, just finished your first year of college then got kicked out. soooo now you go to a different college and keep on going. if that is your worst problem up in till now...... then be happy. just think about all the other 17 year olds who are still in HIGH SCHOOL!
I did the same thing. graduated from high school at 17(went into the military instead of college). I know what its like to have people put high expectations on you. a job is the last thing that you want to look for right now. you might get one and think to your self "hey, got some money in my pocket, screw school." yea my friend did that. he's 28 and hates his life.
maybe it was a good thing that you got placed on academic suspension. wait....... academic suspension!!! you can still go back! not like they said you cann't EVER come back to this school.

I'm 17 and am going to be forced to drop out and get a GED thanks to my *** of a mother.
Pardon me.
You might think you're in bad straits, but trust me, it gets much worse than where you're at right now. Be content with what you've got.

i have to agree with yeah_right. if this is the worst thing that has happened to you, then your pretty lucky. the real world can get much worse, if your not ready for it. it's not even a bad thing if you took a year off. get a job , make some money, then go back. OR just take some time off and relax, then go back.

Two words: Community College.
From meeting you, I would say that you have a lot of growing up to do, and this is part of it. I am still paying for the stupidity of my youth at age 36.

Dude.....Life sucks and then you die.
Life ain't easy, it will kick you while you are down and you have to pick yourself up and ask for more. You have two choices ONLY, either pick yourself up and keep going and in so doing become stronger and enjoy life and others will look at you like you are worth something OR you can stay and wallow in the "poor me" world where you will be a worthless individual and no one will want to be around ya.
We all have our crosses to bear, so I will not go into what hardships I or others have gone thru, life WON'T get any easier, in fact I can garuntee it will only get HARDER, so if you can't handle this little blip....honey you gots problems. Find a way to overcome, no one can live your life for you. YOU have to be happy with yourself. Do what YOU have to do to survive and go to it. Your young, you have a lot going for you, focus on the positives, even if you don't think their are any....believe me, keep looking. Think positively and you will have positive things come your way.
Beginnings are always scary, endings almost always sad, but it is what you do in between that matters.

How EXACTLY did the broken arm hurt you? You just said it messed things up. Did you not take your exams? Did the pain prevent you from studying? What was the problem?

it happened to happen oct. 3rd. which is the day before exams. I had to have surgery to fix it because it was a pretty bad break. I was still in the hospital for the first day of exams and was on hefty pain meds the rest of the week. I contacted disabled services and eventually retook them. but I was taking 19 CH for both quarters, so it was kind of difficult.

dude, you violated the 18 hour rule... never take more than 18 hours.
I'm enrolled for 15 hours, but 3 of that is for scuba certification.
[edit] ...but then again i'm walking in 8 CH short of being a sophmore

Man you guys are pricks. While the intentions seem genuine, alot of you have covered it up in a really really disrespectful way. Regardless of how you feel, none of you should be treating someone that way.
Wes,
Here are a couple questions...
1) Did you speak to the dean of admissions/ Dean of A&S? They must accomodate a valid injury and excuse. It might not be too late to check into it. Most colleges honor a "Freshmen Forgiveness" policy....meaning, F's can go away and turn into W's, which do not affect your GPA. Have you asked that the suspension be lifted? It was only one year, your first year, I bet your Dean will let you back in on some sort of probationary stipulation. Afterall, colleges do want your money...
Regardless of what most think, dont take too much time off. Its alot harder to go back later than it is to go back tomorrow. Bills start catching up, freedom from classes takes over...ect ect. Then you find yourself with a) no time, b) no money to go back.
I did the same thing, except i didnt break my arm, i just skipped a ton. I never had to study, if i skipped class, i'd read some of the book and ace the exam. The attendance mandatory classes are what got me. So, even though you have been removed from one college, its very easy to get into another one. I know at Kent State if your GPA transferring from another college is low, they require that you sumbit highschool transcript again as well as a letter to the dean explaining your grades and why you should get into the school. Other schools require an entrance exam. Monkeys can pass those, i dont think an early graduate will have a problem with them.
Other than that, good luck, i've been there. I've come to terms that i wasnt ready for college mentally. Too much time partying with my fraternity brothers, but now that i've already got an engineering job, i dont really need to go back....I want to finish what i started, i just dont have the time now. Go get it done before it gets 10x harder.
