just a picture of a mod i did... it's called an M655. it's the civilian version of the M4/XM(my gun nut friend told me that... if it's not right, don't ***** at me about it ;))

No, M655's are just the civilian M4's like Magus says... meaning there's no retractable stock.

yeah, that's right, it's HFC. it wasn't really much of a mod, though. it was really easy. all i did was take off the m-16a2's barrel and foregrip and then put on the one from my friend's busted XM177E2(both HFC guns). somehow a small piece broke off of the piston and made the gun no longer usabble, but mine's still working fine.

Because the weapon could be made smaller, and therefore more consealable, which the gov't doesn't like the idea of consealable assault rifles. Same reason you can't legaly make a "sawed-off" shotgun.

Civis CAN buy the retractable M4 stock, but it has to be modified and permanantly locked in the fully extended position. However, I have seen fully retractable stocks for sale at local flea markets and such, so, its easy to obtain these stocks, it just may not be legal without like a class III licence.
