View Full Version : Opera House Massacre

03-10-2007, 11:37 PM
I would like to thank all who showed up, and GL, Trigger, and Dyslexic for making the event happen. I had a great time. There was some problems with people not calling hits, but with this being a mostly fun event, and nothing to serious I didn't really dwell on any of the instances I saw. I did usually say something, but with so much ammo I am sure it would be hard to tell a hit from a ricochet, so I took that into consideration as well. Snipe, p90, all you guys, it was a blast, and p90....I still can see you turning that corner and poping off your shower shell....priceless.

Also, I only got a few pics, but here are my favorite ones:

Inferno AKA Phantom of the opera

and the french maid

Haha. I am sure there are a few of me in the santa outfit floating around, and I tried my hardest to deliver my presents of plasticy doom to all of you, but if I missed you, I will get to you next time, I promise ;) , haha.

Great event for being your first one. There where some problems with integrity of some players but what's new, right? Other then that it was a blast. Had a good time holding down the upper machine gun nest with Kurt Klaus even though both our guns stoped working cause I was out of ammo and Kurt pulled the wire out of his battery. Leaving us with only my handgun and 20 rounds. Fun times. LOL. But we were able to stay alive and win that round. It was also nice playing with the 97th Phantom Squad again. Till next time.

03-10-2007, 11:54 PM
Heck yah nick, it was a blast man. Oh and raptor, your mine at our next team practice, my back is killing me from you standing on it...and you didn't even get the kill....yeah, haha. Oh, and I also wanted to start a lost and found. If anyone has something that is not theres, or lost something, please PM myself, trigger, GL, or dyslexic and we will get a lost and found list togather and get it up. I do know that one of the guys lost a WE baby hicapa, but other then that, I am not sure what was lost/found, so let me know, and I will get up a list.

Hey all,
Thanks to all of you who were able to make the games today. I had a blast playing at being a ref. But I have one question, how can a player mistake a fat guy in an orange vest for an opposing player? General Lee, Wickedtrigger13, and I all learned alot today about how to make the next game better for all. If you noticed anything you liked or disliked let us know, I want the good and the bad. From my point of view everyone seemed to have a good and fun day.
Thanks again and happy hunting.

03-11-2007, 01:46 AM
We feel that for our first event that it was a success. Yes their were some minor issues, and a missing pistol. But most people played with honor and respect, and I thank you again for that.
A special thanks to BH97, Josh, Joe and a few others (sorry did not get your names) for staying and helping us tear down and clean up. it was much appreciated.
It's late I'm tired, will post more tomorrow
Please let us know what you thought about the event, good or bad.

I had fun. Tahnks organizers, and thank you to my 97th Hostage Taker, I hope I was a great human shield. :D

Yea I have to say I had a good time. Sorry to the judge for shooting him. (all i saw was your pants) I didnt think to see a turn out like that... it was a little crowded but it was nice to see that many people show up. I cant wait till you host another event.

o yea im the french maid

Great event. I had a good time. Hope General Lee and crew didn't get in trouble for the damage on the doorways on the second floor.

I took a lot of pictures, but due to the whole theater being very very dark most of them didn't turn out very well. I would have used flash more, but I didn't think the players would appreciate being constantly lit up and blinded by me the annoying photographer over and over.

Man was it intense though. After the first round ended I found a couple BBs had found their way into one of my pockets from all the fire we (the assault team I was following) were taking from the defenders. Great job by the defenders by the way.

Too bad my brother hadn't found out about the semi-secret side-entrance to the Opera House that led to the third floor earlier. We had perfect views of both balcony positions and took a squad up there to do some damage but didn't end up getting much. My brother ended up dying from a knife kill though. From my brother's description of his attacker I think it might have been Kurt Klaus. If you knifed a gearless MARPAT-wearer then please speak up. :P

I'm editing the good pictures together now. I might have some up by tonight and more up later.

03-12-2007, 12:16 AM
I had a good time at this event. My biggest suggestion for next time would be to have multiple entry points. Everyone going up the stairs is just suicide.

I'm working on getting the pics up that my gf took. Give me a day or two.

I loved the pistol only games. This is the first time I've been able to use my pistol since I fixed it, and it got a workout. There was one game I held off 5 guys advancing up the stairs with the shield with just my pistol. Good stuff.

There was some questionable hit calling, but with all the ricochets, it was understandable. Overall great job for your first event. I look forward to the next one.

03-12-2007, 03:45 PM
I had a blast and for the first event thrown by these guys i would say they are off to a good start. Son of Liberty you were an excellent human shield for me, i managed to clear and entire stairway by myself and take out like 6 or 7 guys. It was awesome thanks for being a good sport about it. MY NEW PISTOL KICKS.....well you know! I had a good time and i think the next one will be better.

03-12-2007, 04:25 PM
i had a great time shooting all of you guys on saturday. tempers seemed to flare a bit late in the day but that happens when you have that many men crammed that close together. unfortunatly i cant upload the video that was taken becuase the tape got messed up somehow. it wont play for more than 3-4 seconds at a time. overall i had a great time and i got a load of pistol kills.

03-12-2007, 05:54 PM
One question, when is the next event? Great game, few minor problems but the good fall out wade the bad.

03-12-2007, 09:57 PM
Had a great time, can't wait till next one.

03-12-2007, 10:41 PM
Alright. I've edited some of the better pictures I took from the event. My apologies for not being able to get better quality photos. The Opera House was light enough to play well in, but just dark enough to make taking photos difficult. I used an ISO setting of 1600 to take most all of these, and so even the ones that weren't blurry from long exposures still have a lot of noise and artifacts from the high light sensitivity setting I had to use. I tried using Photoshop to clean them up a bit, so here are some of them.

Watching the Spartans charge up the right stairwell was very very cool, but taking pictures ended up being wasted as it was too dark to get anything worthwhile.

03-12-2007, 11:04 PM
Great pictures. Hope to be there next event!

P.S. Do you guys think it wise to be setting what looks to be a real gun on a car, outside, in the open?

03-12-2007, 11:48 PM
That was me D-boy, and snipe shooting that chair. LOL it was fun we had nothing else to shoot at.

03-13-2007, 12:04 AM
Do you guys think it wise to be setting what looks to be a real gun on a car, outside, in the open?

Hey don't look at me. Whatshisface was the one who left it on the hood. :P

I was surprised when I first pulled into the parking lot. There were some people actually gearing up in the lot, despite being warned not to and being told to gear up inside.

It was pretty funny seeing people walk by the theater entrance though. I went out to the car to get something and on my way back ended up right behind someone as they were walking past the theater, and as he went by the door, he looked over, stopped, did a double take, then walked on past in a slight hurry.

03-13-2007, 09:23 AM
Did it look like this?

03-13-2007, 02:12 PM
I wasn't there last weekend but I am sure you guys are over exagerating. No way guys like BlackHawk and Colonel Lee would let guys outside the building, in open public view, with theirs guns and even shooting.....no way, I can't believe you...

03-13-2007, 02:37 PM
Kong, he was asking for the police because he locked his keys in his car. And if this was when you left, I know why there was no one out there watching them, because GL, Trigger, and dyslexic(the actual orginizers) where all in the theater ref'ing and such.

Evil Head
03-13-2007, 02:50 PM
The way I read Blades post, it sounds like he was defending you. I think he's saying that the exagerations are about the number of people shooting outside. He's saying that you guys would never let that happen. I think he was actually paying you a compliment.

03-13-2007, 02:52 PM
Post removed, I read it wrong, I re-read it a few times, and I see now, thank you very much evil head for pointing that out, I simply took it wrong, and thank you blade, and sorry for taking it wrong. But yes, when I first got there, dante and myself had to approach a few people and remind them not to gear up in the parking lot.

03-13-2007, 03:05 PM
BlackHawk (and Evil Head),

First off, relax bro, I can honestly consider you as an organizer and I personally expect you or any other organizers to have solutions or answers to any problems when they happen. My post definitely meant that IF you would have known about people shooting outside, you would have not allowed it and would have taken appropriate action. If you or Colonel Lee knew and/or saw and let it happened, you seriously need to reconsider your position as an organizer. Having people doing stupid stuff on a private and isolated land, while still unsafe, are VERY different than doing something in the middle of the streets.

As sad as it might sound, you guys decided to host an event in a VERY public place and such decision involved stricter rules than anywhere else. It has nothing to do with being your first event or not.

Blackhawk, I have been dealing with you for many years now and I know you enough to know that you would not let it happens, although, you also have to realize that when we share the field, I become as critical as you all should be with me. there is nothing personal about it. If you guys see something WRONG at our events, this is your duty and responsibility to not let it happen or get to me, the same way I expect you all to let me know if someone is unsafe or dangerous in the field. AGAIN, it has nothing to do with me being your friend or not, as organizer we do need to be very critical toward ourselve and between organizers, we should be even more.

Now if you want to keep going with me by downgrading the problems I have ( I so feel like doing politics right now ), bring your butt on AIM and we will discuss further...but for now, I still love you and I sure hope that all negative comments you will get from anyone here, will help you at your next event. You learned from Bermuda, you will learn from this one and next one will be even better...trust me.

03-13-2007, 03:10 PM
I appreciate it blade, and I do appologize for misunderstanding, and you are correct, if any of us had known about what was going on outside, it would have been dealt with immidiatly as it was when I first arrived. It wasn't to bad, but the first thing dante and myself saw where a bunch of people getting there gear on, no guns, but still, not a good idea. We both kind of looked at eachother, and I asked him to go talk to a few, while I also went and talked to some, and we where able to get everyone inside. But yeah, during the games, all of the people involved with the orginization where inside taking care of ref'ing and such, and where not aware that anything was going on outside.

It will definatly be monitered more closely at the next one, that is for sure, and again, I appologize for the misunderstanding.

BlackHawk (and Evil Head),

Hey! Leave me out of this... (insert mom joke here):D

03-13-2007, 08:02 PM
For a first event in place like that I think it went pretty well. I believe the organizers did really well in running the event safely while managing to listen to what the players wanted on and off the field (faster games, fps limits...my awesome ballistics shield :D )

But since it was a little bit of a trial game, I just thought I'd throw in a little constructive criticism (at least from my pov):

I think the biggest problem was the head count. Way too many for the facility. What was the actually number, 60-something? I think something closer to 30-40ish would work a little better in field like that.

Although the opera house is a unique field, I think others will agree when I say it was a little one-sided for the opfor, let alone a good opfor (at least before we started sending 40 people at you guys). I think that was mainly due to just one entry point. If we could get multiple entry points or different areas of the entire building open, then things could have been a little different. That's usually easier said than done though ;)

When there is another game, could a semi-auto round be done? The full-auto didn't seem to bad from the safety/pain aspect but I think it might have led to a more stalemated kind of game play.

All in all a good day. I'm ready for the next one!

03-13-2007, 08:54 PM
i was there with some noob wepons i need suggestions on a good gun thats not that exspensive plz help

03-13-2007, 09:49 PM
...what the players wanted on and off the field (faster games, fps limits...my awesome ballistics shield

Hah. Was your shield the one that got brutally murdered by someone with a gun that was shooting over the limit? The one that had the little window thing shot to bits?

Although the opera house is a unique field, I think others will agree when I say it was a little one-sided for the opfor, let alone a good opfor (at least before we started sending 40 people at you guys). I think that was mainly due to just one entry point. If we could get multiple entry points or different areas of the entire building open, then things could have been a little different. Definitely. Another thing that would have been nice would be to switch the defenders with attackers for at least a round or two. Would have made it more interesting and made the amount of slaughter each side got about equal.

As for multiple entry points... *cough* My brother found a door on the side of the opera house that led to the third floor and gave great vantage points to take out both balconies. He took the Spartans up there once but for some reason we just sat around and did nothing up there. Oh well. :P

03-13-2007, 09:56 PM
those shields were awesome...

I agree completely. :P

My brother had some fun using the nice shield to get to the far right end of the second floor if anyone remembers.

You know with the tactical advantage you guys had we needed those shields.

03-13-2007, 10:30 PM
I will definetely want to go to one of these games, I havent done CQB stuff for a long long long time...

03-13-2007, 11:11 PM
Yeah, these games where basicly a shoot a lot...shoot some more...and maybe a little more type games. I can not guruntee it, but I do believe the 97th is going to be working on getting a game set up there with tnt sometime in the fairly near future, and if this does happen, we will definatly take into consideration all of the stated suggestions, I know we had a lot of the same idea's/concerns, so they will definatly be addressed. I to think for being the first game, not only at the place, but the first airsoft event hosted by GL, it was a good turnout, and a good game.

03-14-2007, 03:24 PM
lol, yeah that was mine that had the shot-up window. Actually it was the only freakin part that went in without problems.

General Lee
03-14-2007, 03:56 PM
I want to start by saying thank you all for coming, and yes there will be another event at this location, and yes I am in the process of planning the next event !

A few things to address.

Every post read that there was to be no setting up outside that you where to come inside to set up. Why some of you though it would be okay to display your guns and setup outside to me is nothing more than total disrespect. Also is not good for a positive image on the sport. Displaying your gun in public is illegal. Expessially considering most people cover up there orange tip. Middletown had at least 2 calls on people displaying fire arms... Yes the police where notified of the event, and that is why you where not arrested for inducing panic. This is a very public area. That is why I did my job as an organizer and notified the PD. However next time the fourm reads set up inside and do not display any fire arms outside the building, it will be stricktly enforced ! So consider this your friendly warning.

Other than displaying guns outside, and some damage to the doorways, this event went off very well ! I have nothing but great things to say about the experiance and look forward to the next event.

Thank you to everyone for helping make this happen ! GL

That was Alex who got nailed in the head haha. Bah bam, it looked terrible.
Next time you should let the attackers be defenders and defenders attack, see how they like it.

03-15-2007, 03:07 PM
they did very last game great game they did not get up the steps but got pushed down the steps and into the theater.

03-15-2007, 08:13 PM
I did find a flash hider at the game while cleaning up, if you are missing one and can discribe it, PM me and i will get it to you.

03-16-2007, 05:20 AM
i was there it was a good one and i wood like to no if there is a team that wood let me and richard2010 be on to play in events and just to play airsoft so if a team wood let me no

win is the next event if u no??

03-16-2007, 05:52 PM
Good lord kid, use some grammer. This is what it should say. Note I did change a lot of the post.

I was there, it was a good event. I would like to know if there is a team that would let richard2010 and I be on to play in events and just to play airsoft, so if a team would let me know that would be dandy.

when is the next event, if you know?

03-16-2007, 06:35 PM
Yeah, if I may recommend, you should make barrel flash hiders madatory, just the covers, not the actual barrels themselves.

Other suggestions, leave all weapons inside, unless they are in gunbags, do not have them show up to the public at any time. I would enforce a warning rule should people seem to forget, give a warning if it happens once, and eject them if it happens again. Simple as that. You should never be lax on that subject, people get scared, easy as that.

just some suggestions...the idea of having such a game is a GREAT idea, but if its ruined thanks to a few people touting their stuff outside, that would be a big hit on the local scene against airsoft...

03-17-2007, 08:17 PM
Does anyone now if there are any more pics of the game.

Alright. I know this is an uber necro post, but I wanted to post it anyways and there's no point in making a new thread.

While the pictures still suck really really badly, I recently sat down with Photoshop and cleaned up a bunch and uploaded them to my Flickr. I have more I might edit and add later as well. If you know you were in a picture I took and it's not on there, just tell me and I can find it and put it up.

Anyways, here's the link. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mulletar/sets/72157600217999298/

Like I said, I might be adding some more later. Hope some of you enjoy them.
