P8/USP/mk23SOCOM
all very similiar. (in real steel)
I'd avoid the HFC gas p8- heard nothing but problems.
KJW makes a USP, which is relatively reliable and considered by many to be a good entry level skirmsih capable gun, however there is a known issue that the trigger assembly does fail after a bit of use, so you may want to look into getting the real one from H+K, before it breaks so you don't have to worry about it later. If this scares you, you need to realize that damned near every airsoft gun has it's own fallibilities and parts issues, the choice is up to the user to maintain it, and keep up on it. I'll leave that up to the Individual to check out the gas guns section of the newbie FAQ.
mk23-socom
there are two generally accepted versions of this awesome peice available, the KSC mk23 GBB, and the Tokyo marui NBB
both are known to be reliable and though they have fundamental differences, (for example, the fact one is a gas blowback <GBB> and much heavier and the other is not :)! ) both are excellent guns.
the TM NBB is much cheaper, made of ABS resin/plastic, and though it does nopt blowback you can rack the slide for effect. It shoots hard and fast- about as powerful as an HFC22 gas gun but with the "weaker" 134a gas. Also comes in a case with a light module (which is relatively weak but looks like Metal Gear Solid) and a real functioning Suppressor, for a decidedly tactical advantage.
The KSC has much more metal, has a hard kick and the slide blowsback, giving you if not the exact sense of true recoil, then at least the feeling of having to readjust your aim picture post recoil, like in a real pistol. it can take a H+K proprietory rail system and a silencer, but includes neither.
hope this helps a bit
