How do they work and are they annoying?

Blowbacks work like this:

When trigger is pulled hammer hits valve on mag releasing a certain amount of gas into the cylinder to blowback the slide and chamber a bb while also propelling the chambered bb.

Non-Blowbacks work the same except the slide doesn't blowback so all the gas propels the bb.

That's in basic terms. It's a little more complicated to be honest.

Ask DumboRat, he'll write you a thesis on gas guns and their operations. If you think "War and Peace" is long, wait til he replies :D

As for them being "annoying", a little yes, but not really.

Yes they require more TLC than a springer, you have to oil them and make sure not to damage you o-rings and such. Cleaning also helps to ensure good operation. Of course, GBB guns will require more wok than NBB guns due to the slide action.

Overall, and to quote Dumbo himself from long ago, gas guns are elegantly simple yet complex. Just keep it in tip-top shape, and you'll learn to love them

Yeah, look for his newbie guide either here or on a different website, that should basically get you up to speed on what you want to know. But as D_Man said, in time you'll learn to love them, they are expensive to upkeep, but they are worth it, I have two myself, one a Western Arms Beretta 8045, and a KWA Mac 11, both are a blast to shoot. Gas guns usually aren't used as primary weapons due to the fact that they are more sensative to weather, but I still prefer them.
