Well Locutus, it's different looking...
Man, IDK, the old color looked beter.
But I can't complain because it's free! By the way, you guys are doing a bang up job!

I said the color scheme was temporary, this was just a template that was readily available. I have to rebuild a new template from scratch as the old version wasn't compatible with the new forum software... I figured getting the site back up first was more important. :)

I like the idea and all the little new nifty gadgets, but the margins on the site are set to 1024x768 resolution, makes everything cramped on 1280x1024

Still becoming acclimated to all of this, but it's much more convenient overall. Don't need much time to see that. Great job. The hardwork is much appreciated from the peanut gallery.

The new site layout is really great. It'll take some getting used to as is normal with any change in forum layout.
The new color scheme should be in place soon. I'm sure Locutus is busting his butt just to get the current changes in place, so give him your thanks as he has been very dedicated to AO since it's creation. Thanks to Locutus!!
The new features are going to be totally kick-a$$!! For those of you who've been asking for it, there is a new Event Calendar, as well as a completely new trading system. It's not going to be forum generated like it was in the past. They now have their own systems for organizing events and organizing sales.
Currently events must be moderator approved. This means that you'll probably not be able to post your local neighborhood back-yard event. In the future, event organizers may be pre-approved to post events whenever they need to post info on a future event, limiting organizers to those who've shown they can put on safe and quality events. Hopefully we'll see some guidelines in the future as to what your event will need to have in place in order to be accepted. Their will probably be age restrictions, as well as safety requirements, etc. Nothing too crazy. Just use common sense and you'll probably not have a problem.
The new iTrade system for buying and selling used guns features a more Ebay like buying/selling system, allowing people to post feedback on users, etc. This should greatly streamline the buying experience for airsofters locally or nationwide, and should weed out problems with potential transactions. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will work in the future.
The Gallery is back up and running and the layout looks to be the same as the old forum. Keep all those great airsoft pics coming!
The Rules and FAQs tabs at the top are currently being worked on by Locutus, and should also be operational soon. Please don't spaz out if they're not working yet. They will be soon. Same goes for the Reviews section, though this will probably get worked on after everything else is put into place. I honestly don't know exactly what Locutus has planned, but I'm sure there will be many happy campers when the site is completed.
Enjoy the new layout!!
Darkstar out.

I like this a lot! I find it a lot easier to navigate and get around and how the homepage isn't the forums. Can't wait for the color scheme. Keep up the god work!

I like this layout a bit and am used to it already (I just had to surf and experiment :) ) but I cant wait to see when you are finished. Only thing is that technically everyone now has to start from scratch as far as rep goes (agreed the previous system did have hicups), and all previous transactions that were commended in the forums are now lost (I reference that sometimes on other forums ; ; ).
Well the new look sure shocked the **** out of me, but it definitly has some potential. Loc if ya need any help i could toss a little of my time your way.
Btw I noticed the "rules" and "FAQ" links at the top werent working yet.
though I do like the new seller rating feature, its kinda like Arnie's but I hope if doesnt get abused like it does over there.

I know all the kinks are still being worked out, and I do indeed like the new AO. My only problem at the moment is my 800x600 resolution. I have to scroll right with every new page to view the other half of it. :(

Why are you using 800x600?!?!?

Ya, is there anything you can do about the resolution, like adjusting to the users resolution? I dont know, i'm not a html wiz.
But as you can see, this site is perfect in 1024x768
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/wicaed/1024.jpg
But in 1280x1024, you notice the white margins on the side of the page and it makes every real close together.

But you see, that would make it even worse for people like me, who have very cheap, small, CRT monitors.

While I prefer to work with fixed width sites (layout is more easily defined), I went ahead and made the site width relative to the user's resolution.

LoL, try using 1440x900, then the margins are way off. I'm not complaining though, it's all good. I'm surprised that anyone stil uses 800x600  . Maybe we should all give donations to get him a new flat panel that supports a higher resolution??

The new site looks horrible on my TRS80 Model 100 and the loading times for the pages are killing my 300 baud acoustic coupler!

I'm a little confused as to how this new reputation system works...is it like Arnies where you give feedback and you can raise or lower another person's reputation points, or is it similar to the star system where all ratings are averaged out?
A little bit of an explanation would be appreciated :D

Users gain and lose reputation based on how their posts are scored by other forum participants. Users with the ability to affect reputation, will either give or take aways points by approving or disapproving with a post's content.
Some users opinions count more than others. It factors in their reputation, post count, how long they have been a member, and their usergroup (ie admin, mod, user).

Great job, once again Loc! New site looks great, and the features will keep me busy till I'm bound to a rocking chair in old age. After the server upgrade, I was shocked, after seeing this I'm stunned, now I can't wait to see what else you have up your sleave... FREE PTW FOR EVERYBODY!
I've tested a good number of resolutions on my godly, multi-aspect monitor, and everything appears to be perfect, other then 800x600 and below, and some funky setups like 1440x900. It should be alright, though more people use less then 1024 then you might think. First thing beat into my head when I started learning web design, is that the majority of computers are work-place **** boxes. :D
erm... damnit... where'd the spell check run off to? I ned itz

Is it just me, or does the chat room slow connections down... When people were on it, I was having trouble surfing through AO
Ya, I was having the same problem, but no one believed me :(
Darkstar
02-11-2007, 02:37 AM
I think the chatroom slowdown issue wasn't because of the chatroom, but was more of a server/internet traffic issue. Everything seems to be working fine for me.
Also, looks like the new color scheme is in place. Looks great!! Not sure if it's done, but this is nice.

Now that it's been here awhile there is just two things i don't like. First is the "no" section for the RSVPing of events, if your not going the people that are don't care. Second the scraping of the team section, i got alot of intrested people that found me through that section alone. Other than those two things it's good to go.
