gallery is "Gallery is currently offline"

Was wondering if anybody (or its just me) has had any trouble with the gallery. When you change how you want to sort the pics and click on one, it ends up with the different pic from before the perameters changed.

Although its not really about problems with the gallery, I thought this would be a good post to ask this: How do I even upload pictures, do I need certain software,I have a program that I have my pics on, but when I try to upload them, it says I need to buy the complete version. sorry if Im hijacking this post Kurt, but Im going out of my skull trying to figure this out. Any help at all would be greatlY appreciated.

This weekend I had problems with it. I would click on a picture's thumbnail and it would come up saying that the image could not be found and the whole page was unformatted and weird.
