A sidearm thats not a pistol? Small-sized SMGs and perhaps carbines would be appropriate---
Anything but that MP5 springer:

This is quite nice also:

Easy answer is an MP-5K. Then you have a ready amount of interchangeable mags.

that may indeed be the obvious choice, but i don't want to have two of the same gun... takes away from the childlike glee of purchasing a new gun!

glocks are fine and all, but i need a beefy-er gun! it's too small for my mits.

i'm sorry, i did not intend to give the impression that i carried both the m3 super90 and the mp5-a4 at the same time, that would be far too cumbersome and severly restrict my mobility, i use either the m3 or the mp5.

You should give a look at some gas SMGs, such as the TMP or the MAC 11. both offer high rates of fire and I think most people that own them tend to be rather satisfyied with them. another full-auto pistol to look into is the M93

I own a M11, very nice. I would recommend a Magnesium bolt if you do get one. Very nice kick and high ROF. Perfect backup weapon.

In regards to the Uzi, I believe that Inferno has a review up on www.arniesairsoft.co.uk. From what I have heard, it is a decent gun, and definitely stands out on the field amidst a sea of MP5 and M-16 variants.

yeah, i had been considering a tmp, they're sweet *** guns, but i wanted to try for another electric... the price on gas can really add up, and it's just one more thing you have to worry about bringing with you... but after having read the review on the uzi, sounds like it just eats through batteries... i suppose for the time being i will just sit and ponder on what to purchase.

Well since you are talking about a backup weapon, a gas pistol or gas smg is probably most reasonable. One can of gas will last you a very long time, i mean like you said, its a backup weapon, you mite only use it once or not even use it at all in a game. One can of gas usually lasts me around 3 months since i carry around a TM m9 but i rarely use it unless i get very close or run out of ammo. But i carry 10 standards and 1 hi cap, and if i have time, i rather juss reload the hi cap to avoid using my sidearm. My sidearm is just to last resort as if my gun gets jammed or my battery dies in the middle of a firefight.
And from past experience, carrying two aegs had a lot of disadvantages. My primary was a mp5a4, then i strapped a mp5k on the back. I lost mobility and i had to make sure that i didnt slip and fall backwards or roll around. GBB pistols allow the extra mobility since it is holstered w/ protection and come in handy better than fully auto smgs and pistols. Fully auto uses the ammo up too fast and with semi-auto pistols, you can pace yourself of how much you shoot.

yes, i do suppose if you slung your sidearm you would lose a great deal of mobility, as per shooting a gun on full auto, i've always been a believer in short bursts... typically i don't fire more than 3 rounds at a time with my mp5-a4. however, i would like a full auto sidearm... my buddy has a mac11 for his sidearm, and he loves it. perhaps the best way for me to go would be with a tmp or a mac 11... and in going that route...
does anyone know a holster that can fit a tmp?
or even a way to jury rig a holster to hold a tmp, i just don't want to have to sling my sidearm.

Alright...you say you don't want a gas gun and you don't really want another handgun...you have to choices then...and AEG...or a springer. The best AEG I would believe is the mp-5k. It's light and manueverable. Plus you already have the clips for the gun. It doesn't eat through batteries...and it also has a good rate of fire if you're looking for a sidearm. The Glock18C would be a preferable choice in this case but you're not looking for a handgun. So the next obvious choice would be the Mac11. Just because it uses up the batteries fast doesn't mean anything. You only want a sidearm. I don't think you're going to use a sidearm for more than a few seconds unless you plan on getting butchered. I would not go for the springer guns for only one reason. They don't have HOPUP! You couldn't shoot anyone who was more than about 30 ft. away from you. PLus your rate of fire would be so slow it wouldn't really help in the long run. You would have to set down all of your other stuff just to cock the gun and what not. So considering a springer in this case does not seem like a viable option. But I would try to keep the trend. You already have and H&K so why not add to the collection? Who knows...you can actually do stuff the the mp-5k like upgrades and what not. Then you could possibly sell it for what it's worth. Springers aren't really going to go for as much as you payed for them. Usually you lose money when you try to sell springers. So the best option for you looks like the mp-5k or a Mac11 (or something of that sort like a Micro UZI). But rememeber it's just what you like. No one can tell you the "BEST" gun to buy. There is no "best." It's only what you need and like.
P.S. DON'T GO W/ THE REDWOLF BLIZZARD M-4...IT LOOKS LIKE TRASH IN OPINION AND I LIKE THE COLT M-4'S!

Sorry about saying spring guns don't have hop-up. I meant that some of of them don't and even some of the ones that do aren't very good. My appologies for that statement.
