I live in Michigan, should I spend $100+ on a GBB when I can only use it like half the year? These things are pretty worthless in 40 degrees right?

Is it worth is to you to be able to use a GBB for 6 months out of the year?
I live in Ann Arbor, I have two GBB's (both over $100) and am contemplating a third. To me, it's worth it. I like having them, more for collecting purposes than using (although my Glock gets heavy skirmish use, my still non-functioning WA infinity champ .45 just gets sweared at a lot).

0001,
If cold-weather use is your concer, purchase a WA double-stacker 2011-type replica.
These will give usable performance down to 30 deg. F. (250 fps. with 0.20 gram BBs) with use of Taiwanese "Green Gas."
Further temperature depression can be compensated for via use of "Red Gas" or alternative hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants/propellants providing higher pressure than Taiwanese "Green Gas"/H(C)FC22.

heres my take on it. i wouldnt worry about temps in MI. most of us live in PA and OHio and sourrounding areas. the climate probably isnt all that different for the most part (though depends where in MI.) If you feel it is, and want to correwct me, then consider this.
Most people in my experience really only play airsoft when its "in season" IE late spring, summer and early fall. I know i personally do. I know my team does this, and so do most people we play with. Winter time isnt fun playing in my opinion, and if we do play in winter its indoors.
Large portions of us are school and college age, and i know for me, playing during the year happens maybe..... 3 times?
Ive owned two gas guns and its never been something i really consider.

Though I would agree with Deltasniper's assessment of seasons, I'd simply like to point out that with a set of poly-pros and boots- winter playing- even in deep snow- is awesome. Primarily you'd want to use springers due to water and cold concerns, but seriously- it can be brutally fun. The real drawback is it is even tougher than usual to check hits.

Well, airsoft is different for me, I just play with my brothers and friends. I use springers and I play a LOT all year round, so I guess I would rather use springers than gas, unless I get what DumboRAT said. I don't think anyone is willing to buy gas guns anyway.
