View Full Version : The search button

It seems to me that more and more we get more posts that could easily be resolved by searching. This seems to be angering quite a few people, and i see more and more threads being locked because of it.
Is there any way that the moderators, administrators, or super mods could help make the search button even MORE obvious?
Is there a possibility of making the already obvious flashing search button larger? Maybe even post it in more than one area. Or another idea would be to put it at the top of the window when you are writing a new thread.
I think making it larger would increase the use of it, and would cut down on useless posts that we all seem to flame at causing arguments and anger.
Is there anything you guys can do?

Put it right underneath the 'New Thread' button and have it say, 'Get an answer faster by searching!' or something like that.

Before a new thread is posted, have a rediculus number of java messages asking if you used the search button to get an answer.
Just remember, as long as there are noobs, there will be a lack of use for the search button

Considering that it is the only thing on the page flashing yellow and red, and there are multiple things in place asking people if they want to do it, well... you can imagine that the people who design and maintain the forum aren't all that thrilled at the idea of dumbing down the site any more.

Gertrude, you are right as always.
If my first idea doesnŐt float you're boat then here is another one.
Have a pull down list at the top of the page. This menu will have what the post is about. Points on the menu would include, technical, problems, review, question, whatever. One of those items needs to be selected before the thread can be submitted. Then before the thread can be put up for the whole world to see, a moderator must check it off. If the moderator lies the smacketh down, a PM is sent to the thread starter stating why said thread was smackethed down.
I understand that this may be more of a hassle to the moderator/administer team, but to solve this I propose that we have more moderators.
Whatever, that is just another of my elaborate ideas. Use it, dissect it, make fun of it however you want.

It isn't an issue of people not seeing it. it's a combination of a few things. It's just that people are either:
A: Blind
B: Ingorant
or
C: Just don't care.
These people that don't search go on to break rules and get banned. I have no pity for those that can't look around and observe the rules and requests of board members before they post. Remember, ignorance is no excuse for violating the law, and it is no different here.

Spence you are a ****ing genious! I would have about 1354 of those shirts. I have to have one of those T-Shirts and where it to an AO event.
And to add on to it:
For 25 uses of the earch button you get a Camofage T-Shirt that says Super Searcher
Or for 100 search button uses, you get a special star under your avatar.

Frankly the newbs who come right out and tell you they're too lazy to search need to be banned by Loki's banhammer on the spot. I'm not a very tolerant person of newbs who disregard the rules, as most of you can see by my posts lately. There are always going to be the newbs who don't search and nobody is going to be able to do much about it.

I agree. I don't think there is much else anyone can do besides trying to be patient and constantly reminding non-searchers to search.
Why not take away the "Post New Thread" button and replace it with another search button. :D

HAhahah. Texx it took me a minute to understand what you had done to that picture. Gave me a good laugh. Many of the comments on here are very true. Ignorance and laziness are things that shouldnt be tolerated.

Nice post Texx. So where's the button to post a reply? Or is it just strictly search only?

How bout you order 1337 of them instead?
For each use of the search button, you don't get banned by Loki.
By 25 uses, its almost second nature to you. Your independent and have the pride in knowing how to learn for yourself.
By 100 searches, you no longer have to worry about it. You retain your 5-star rating by not posting dumb questions that have already been answered.
